Students are expected to download and study all lecture content

  • Introduction to course Biblical Hebrew part 2.
  • Hebrew Numbers.
  • More pronouns, demonstrative and relative; more possessive suffixes
  • Continuing with Qal: more perfect and imperfect verbs; weak roots; I Nun and III Hey.
  • Continuing with Qal: I Yod and I Alef; more infinitives, participles and volitives; hollow verbs
  • The piel: strong roots; weak roots
  • The hiphil: strong roots; I Guttural; I Nun; i yod; iii hey
  • The niphal: strong roots; weak roots
  • More passive verbs: qal, pual, and hophal
  • The hithpael verb
  • Geminate roots
  • Clauses: Temporal and Interrogative

  • To continue with studies in Hebrew grammar already covered in Biblical Hebrew 1
  • To provide students with an introduction to the Biblical Hebrew language.
  • To give students basic skills needed for the exegesis of the Hebrew Old Testament.
  • To enable students to understand and make use of technical commentaries on the Old Testament
  • To provide a foundation for the further study of Old Testament texts in Hebrew.

Audio/video lectures, guided reading, individual study, and individual support where appropriate. Students will prepare for assignments individually using online learning material. Students are encouraged, but not required, to participate in online theological discussion on the eCampus Forum.

By the end of the module, students will be able to:

  1. Understand the main grammatical components relevant to introductory Hebrew. 
  2. Read and translate simple Hebrew sentences.

  3. Demonstrate an ability to analyse grammatical constructions.

  4. Be able to read and understand technical, exegetical commentaries and reference works on the Hebrew Bible.
