This module will provide students with a thorough introduction to the genre, text, themes and theological aspects of the letter to the Hebrews. It focuses especially on the exegetical treatment of the text, together with a consideration of the theology of the epistle and its wider theological relation to the Old and New Testaments. To build upon Certificate-level modules students have already taken in hermeneutical theory and practice, thereby enhancing their existing exegetical and hermeneutical skills.
To provide students with a thorough knowledge and understanding of the New Testament letter to the Hebrews, with a special focus on the exegesis and theology of the text.
To introduce important scholarly literature and key interpretative issues in the letter to the Hebrews.
To provide students with an opportunity to relate theologically the letter to the Hebrews to the wider literature of the Old and New Testaments.
